Unidentified forgeries The stamp shown in Figure XX is cancelled "WIES[BADEN] 2 Sept. 1893, a date which is clearly impossible. Common to all three forgeries is the weak and fuzzy execution of the overprint, as well as the fact that the angle is less steep than normal. Stamps with lower angles had been made for the Caroline and the Mariana Islands, but not for the Marshalls. These forgeries are most likely made by overprinting genuinely cancelled German stamps |
