Postage Stamps used in the German Marshall Islands Catalogue of German Pacific Hialeah Forgeries (Caroline Islands ) by Dirk H.R. Spennemann |
The known copies of Hialeah forgeries have been set out below, sorted according the German base stamp used. Note that the items Chatham3, 51, 52 and 53 use a 'Deutsch-Ostakfrika' cancel intead of the required 'Karolinen' cancel.
Worth noting is that Chatham52 did not sell the first time round, was then trimmed at the edges and relisted as part of the group lot RBJ11. The same occcurred one other time, as illustrated by the pieces Chatham51/RBJ12. An example of a single relist, but also trimmed at the edges can be illustrated by the pieces Chatham53/marcelo2. The reasons for this bizarre behaviour are unclear. |
