Modern Shipwrecks in the Marshall Islands Yamato Maru No 32, Ebon A Photo Essay by Dirk HR Spennemann |
The Yamato Maru No 32 ran aground on the West Coast of the Ebon Island. The vessel seems to have hung over the edge of the reef. As the iron hull corroded, the stern of the vessel broke off and sank in deep water over the reef's edge, while the bow was pushed by the waves, eventually being rotated facing the waves. A smaller section of the hull broke off and was washed by wave actions against the edge of the islet, where it rests just below the high tide line. |
